Belle Brooke Barer
Artist StatementThe unusual and mesmerizing jewelry created by Belle Brooke Barer, principal designer and visionary of Belle Brooke Designs, acquires its azygous character through the process of hand fabrication. Each piece is created in either sterling silver or 18 karat gold and sprinkled with semi-precious and precious stones. Tiny tubes are hand placed and soldered in singular batches to create the effervescent circular patterns that define the signature collection, Metropolis. This method ensures that each piece is always unique. The signature Metropolis collection is inspired by manmade acquisitions of the natural symmetry inherent in the organic worlds. It is an artistic rendering of the concept of cells and their multitudinous manifestations. Upon close inspection, a leaf is the collaboration of a myriad of unique cells, which together result in the creation of a whole object which is completely uniform and symmetrical in form. In turn, this object makes up an even greater object, the tree. Each piece confirms the theory of strength in numbers and the power therein. Belle Brooke Barer established Belle Brooke Designs in January 2006 upon her return to Los Angeles. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Brooke ventured westward in 1997 to attend Pitzer College in Claremont, California. Her studies at Pitzer concentrated in various mediums of Studio Art, focusing mainly on photography. She began her jewelry studies at the The Crucible in Berkeley, Ca., and later attended the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco. After completing her studies she went to work at Studio 311 as a bench jeweler. She now lives, works, and creates in downtown Los Angeles. |
