Artist Statement
I fabricate my work out of Sterling Silver and Gold with gemstone and pearl accents. This means I make everything by hand out of sheet and wire; no part of the work is cast or bought commercially. Many of my pieces are made using the technique of hollow forming, which allows me to hide complex structured systems inside, keeping the finished piece appearing simple and streamlined. I have a large repertoire of technical skills, such as riveting, hinging, and stone setting, which I employ based upon the design I am making.
My designs come from a tri-relationship between myself, my tools, and the material. I love to find out what a tool can do to help me manipulate and shape metal. I am attracted to multiples, to movement. All of the oval discs in my jewelry move, creating a glimmer of mechanical structure, but also creating an idea of something more organic such as flower petals moving in the wind. I am constantly experimenting and pushing myself with my work—both in a design and technical sense—while keeping true to the aesthetic of the body of work I have already developed.
By paying attention to both design and technical aspects in my work, I am able to create wearable jewelry that also can act as small pieces of sculpture. I aim to make work that is stimulating for me to make, and exciting for my customers to wear.
