Artist Statement
I draw inspiration from basic machinery. I find beauty in
the structure of a bicycle chain or ball bearing because they combine both
firm and fluid elements. I also enjoy old tools, old jewelry, and old
buildings because even though made from inherently hard, cold materials,
they have gained a warmth of spirit. Like relics from another time, they
seem to relate ineffable experiences of the people who used them, wore them
and lived with them. In my work, I strive to create contemporary
jewelry pieces that impart the same feeling of time and motion.
