Artist Statement
I
consider myself a minimalist, a modernist and a reductivist. I am a
builder of jewelry and objects for use and contemplation I construct
with frames and face them with silver and gold sheetrock. Texture is
applied as plaster is applied to a wall after the construction is
complete. I work in an additive process using stylized, abstracted
symbols for construction. A broken column may be re-presented as a
fallen column - a remnant - a fragment - a past history - a moment in
time - a stillness - a contemplative center - an object that has been or
is becoming.
Whether these personal symbols surface in my subconscious or in my
research, they are validated as elements of a language and a mode of
communication when they materialize in the final product. Each piece
becomes a record of work done, of the craftsman, on the edge of
becoming - a suggestion rather than complete statement.
