Artist Statement

My inspirations derive from the collective experiences of my daily life, at my bench, in the kitchen, walking in the woods, looking and looking again. The things that I make are influenced by sculptural forms and textures of the natural world… clever seedpods, the designs of the human body, floppy microorganisms, hair follicles, to name a few.

Recent work in ebony and cow bone has opened up new territory for me in form, texture and scale. I like the juxtaposition of the warm, yielding, organic materials with the cool intractability of metal and minerals.
