Goph Albitz

I started my career in 1958 as a precision toolmaker in the Areo- Space Industry, Santa Monica, Ca.

The jewelry part of my career began in 1968 as a hippie artist in Big Sur, Ca. where i had a studio at the Coast Gallery.

I relocated to Carmel Ca. in 1976 where I opened my first design studio, there my work took on its contemporary direction. Showing it at Concepts, one of the first ‘Designer Galleries’ in the country..

Soon I was showing my work at New York shows where I opened accounts with Saks Fifth ave. Bendels and Nordstroms also adding Galleries from coast to coast,

Then in 1989 I opened my flagship store “GOPH & CO.” a designer showroom that sold exclusively my jewelry line, custom designs and One-of-a- kind pieces.

In1998 I built my Bend studio in Tumalo. There I returned to being a sole studio jeweler. I make each piece from start to finish, alloying the gold or other metals, then turning it into sheet-stock or wire for hand fabricating. The gemstones I then cut to enhance the designs.

In 2008 the Country was in an economic crisis, I adjusted by work, looking to design pieces using alternative materials with gold.

Thus the birth of my “Simple Cool” collection; a deconstructed cracked silver base, heavily textured with 22k fused gold and bezel set gems with flush set diamonds.

This new looks drew the attention of Glenn Espig gallery owner in Monecito, Ca. He invited me to join his artist group doing International Art Shows.

First was SOFA in Chicago 2010, showed there three years then we did Park Avenue Armory, NY 2013-14 and Dallas Art Center 1012 and finally West Palm Beach Fine Arts show.2015-2018

In 2016 I was invited to do an exhibition of my work at Karry Gallery in Paris. and PAD show in England

In 2014 I was ask to design the new COMAG show for Bends Metal Art Guild, of which i later became director for 8 years.
